Father’s Day Part 3: Honor is the Door

Who do I honor? One who did for me when I couldn’t do for myself. When I couldn’t feed myself, wash, provide, or protect myself, my father did. I honor him for those times.

Do you ever wonder why men congregate in places like The Moose Lodge, Elk Lodge, The Knights of Columbus Hall, Masonic lodge, the corner bar, etc? It’s within these walls that men respect one another for the accomplishments that usually go unseen and in their minds unappreciated at home. So they come together to develop an atmosphere of respect and honor that is understood and maintained even if it’s only for a couple of hours in a dingy, dim-lit metal building.

Do you ever wonder why it’s the young men that seem to gravitate to volunteer for the military? Join the cub scouts, boys scouts, football team, etc? These organizations have badges to place on your chest. Football teams have stickers on helmets, trophies to accumulate that all make the same statement “You are special. You are worthy of honor!” Honor is the door to a man’s heart! Honor is the vocabulary of men. Men have given their lives in the pursuit of honor since the world began. We should learn something here.

Families are the support structure for the husband/father position. For the husband/father position to be at his very best, the family should practice consistent honor/respect for his position. This supplies fresh oxygen to the head, which enables and empowers it to think clearer and thereby make better decisions for the family. TEAM. Together Everyone Achieves More. Let's work smarter and not harder. Each of us understanding our roles makes it easier for the family to reach its goals.

"In the same way, you wives/children must accept the authority of your husbands/fathers. Then, even if some refuse to obey the Good News, your godly lives will speak to them without any words. They will be won over 2 by observing your pure and reverent lives. 4 You should clothe yourselves instead with the beauty that comes from within, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is so precious to God. 5 This is how the holy women of old made themselves beautiful. They put their trust in God and accepted the authority of their husbands/fathers." - 1 Peter 3 (NLT)

This scripture is speaking of Honor. If you have ears to hear, hear the truth. You are the spine that supports the head. Do it well and reap the benefits!

My challenge for you is to honor your husband/father for the next 7 days. What have you got to lose? I believe you’ll find a different man, a man that might even trade the lodge for the home!
